Neighbourhood Watch: Corktown & Riverdale South

Today we look at the southeast edge of downtown Toronto, an area which has seen a lot of development since the area was developed as the athlete’s village for the 2015 Pan American Games. This is an area I see great growth and potential, with the nearby Unilever site being planned as a massive commercial and transit hub, proximity to the Distillery District and Waterfront, easy access to the DVP and Gardiner Expressway, and extensive planned Waterfront developments including Quayside, a recently announced 12-acre futuristic mini-city to be developed by Google’s sister company, Sidewalk Labs. The Portlands nearby is also an area of great potential for commercial and residential growth, and with Toronto being regarded as the Canadian frontrunner for Amazon’s second North American headquarters, this part of the city would be an ideal location for their massive campus given it’s the last significant area of available development lands near the downtown core.
Corktown and South Riverdale are great family-friendly neighbourhoods that are an easy commute to downtown with a wide range of housing for everyone: single family homes, townhouses, new condos, loft conversions, etc. Nice public amenities such as pedestrian and bicycle paths along Queens Quay and the Don Valley and the 18-acre Corktown Common Park are already well appreciated by the residents living there. 

I see this area as an excellent long-term investment with lots of exciting proposals and significant growth coming soon.
