Church conversion lofts has had some bad luck in Toronto over the years with many developments failing or struggling to get completed. As well, most church conversion lofts sadly had their interiors stripped of all its architectural character, but West40 Lofts has bucked this trend and is in fact one of the finest loft developments in the city with no corners cut, every historical detail preserved (it’s Heritage Designated), and packed full of beautiful contemporary finishes that are well integrated into the original architecture. The loft has three and a half stories making it feel like a townhouse and the bedrooms are fully enclosed. Excellent location near Ossington and Dufferin stations.

Outdoor space is limited and not private as it forms part of the shared walkway. Property taxes are on the high side, however its low maintenance fees do balance this expense out. Living inside a former church may give some the heebie-jeebies.

My final thoughts:

I was fortunate enough to have viewed this church while it was still in construction and talked to both the developer and architect when this development was first launched. The pride of design and construction is very evident here. At exactly $1,000/sq.ft. you can’t find a more well-finished loft for the price and the pricing undercuts many newer cookie-cutter condos currently for sale in the city. Expect a lot of interest for this stunning loft.
